Technology used in Planning...

Powerpoint and Slideshare - slide share and PowerPoint were a huge part of analysing existing products already on the market. With Internet sites such as google I was able to evaluate existing products such as the institution, how brands are created and the presentation of a package. PowerPoint enabled me to break my research and planning down into small manageable steps and unravel the process of a successful media package. Along with other sites such as time toast, which enabled me to research horror movies and make a timeline assembling how the industry has moved during the centuries.

Technology used in Making.. As for making of the products the ancillary task was mainly used with two types of technology, Microsoft publisher and photoshop. In photoshop I was able to create a magazine and poster to be conventional of the layout of an existing product. I used layering and careful selection and arrangement of font and images to portray the correct mode of address.


technology making the main product, the trailer, was generally more complex. I firstly used a camera to film all footage needed, prop, costume and timing needed to be planned profusely before hand. With the use of the video camera, we recorded audio, visual footage and took still photographs for still frames. To edit the footage I used iMovie. The trim and cut features allowing me too remove unwanted footage and make it into a more fast paced and interesting trailer. adding audio and sound also a good use of technology in iMovie as It was specifically downloaded to be copyright free. iMovie was also a useful technology during the evaluation process as it was used to put together pieces of audience feedback. Another useful source of technology was the website prezzie which I used as a presentation source.

Evaluation question 3- Audience feedback

This is the original 'The 'Move' trailer that I showed to members of my target audience. My target audience for this horror trailer is 15-24 year olds, as they are more likely to want to make themselves 'scared'. I used 3 different target audience members to discuss different aspects of my trailer and comment on what they liked, what they disliked and how it could be improved. The 3 members of my target audience are intentionally very different in order to see if my trailer can appeal to a wide target audience, people with different hobbies and interests, all within the same age group.

 

 

 

 

 

 

So overall from my audience feedback I have learnt that the most successful area of my trailer was the mise-en scene, as feedback shows the costume, props and location used are widely effective. The mise en scene is conventional of the horror genre and is identified well by members of the target audience. I found that the prop of the dolls with blood on was a particularly memorable extract of the trailer for the audience, also the priest costume was thought to be an effective aspect. Audience feedback has shown me that my trailer can appeal to a wide range of different people within my age range as it is conventional of the horror genre though mise en scene, editing , camerawork and sound effects. Now I have conducted audience feedback, I will improve my product by shortening the trailer to make it more effective, changing the sound effects to make it more conventional of the horror genre and also record voice overs for a more professional approach.

Filming and Editing

Filming Saturday 10^th November 13, 2012 (Heidi Stevenson)

 The horror trailer was filmed at my house, to prepare for filming I rearranged 3 rooms to film scenes in.  Changing the layout of the bedroom to fit the brief of a little girl’s room.  I had to dress the scenes, my adding dolls, toys and boxes to make it look realistic and fit to the storyboard.

I set up the mise-en scene for filming by choosing location, props and costume.  We had arranged to use a vicar costume, however we could not get hold of this therefore I made a vicar costume using a black shirt and paper as a neck collar. A range of props were also required for the making of our product, we collected some old dolls and pulled them apart, I then painted the dolls with red and brown paint to make them look like they were covered in blood. We also used fake blood in the vicar scene in which I placed my foot in a mixture and printed it onto the floor, making it look like bloody footsteps.

I arranged the actors, location, time and date of filming, as I knew all actors used. I arranged the costume and props needed for each actor, including Sarah who had 3 costume changes and a range of props during filming.  As I was responsible for costume, I firstly chose a white dress during the first scene whilst she was dancing along to the television. This connotes innocence and purity during the scenes before ‘Sarah’ became possessed.  I also had a small acting role myself featuring me in the window of the house, playing the role of an evil presence. Along with prop and costume and setting the scene I took on the role of hair and makeup, backcombing the actresses hair and adding dark makeup under the eyes to create a spooky setting conventional of a horror trailer.

I also took care of aspects of mise-en-scene through technical effects, such as flicking the lights, thinking of ways to slam the door closed, and move the blind up and down to create a spooky effect. My role also involved talking through camera shots, movement and angles with Aston, making sure the actors were clear on the role and scene we was filming, and making sure the scenes shot were of a high quality.

We plan to do most of the filming in one day and then if an extra date is needed we will confirm a time and date.

We was unable to film on this date, therefore another date will be scheduled.
